North Fulton Regional Hospital Partners with National Youth Leadership Forum

ATLANTA, GA – August 28, 2001 – Thanks to a recent partnership with the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, North Fulton Hospital has seen the future of medicine. And the future is full of promise. North Fulton Regional Hospital and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine recently hosted 44 high school students in a program to give the youth first-hand knowledge of daily medical life.

Forum participants were selected from a nationwide pool of applicants based on scholastic merit and leadership potential. The National Youth Leadership Forum exists to educate, inspire and motivate high school students with demons a strong interest in the medical field.

The participating high school juniors and seniors interacted with healthcare professionals on a one-on-one basis. The students focused on medical issues through lectures and small-group seminars. They had the opportunity to reflect on the necessary technical skills required to be an outstanding physician and were given instruction on how to arrange further clinical shadowing in their hometowns. The program enabled students to understand the demands of the profession before choosing to apply to medical school.

"North Fulton has a significant interest in educational programs that encourage the development and the interests of our youth," said Mitzi Stanfield, RN of Clinical Education at North Fulton Regional Hospital. "We are committed to contributing to the successful development of these students."
