Why Pain Management?

Acute and chronic pain represents a health problem. Chronic pain alone affects millions of Americans. The constant stress caused by unremitting pain can interfere with a person’s quality of life.

Treatment Protocols

Because pain may be a complicated problem, a multidisciplinary approach is used at the Pain Control Center to address aspects related to its cause and treatment.

After an initial evaluation by a physician, a comprehensive, individual treatment plan is developed and presented to the patient. The patient may be referred, as appropriate, to other team members or specialists.

Although complete relief from pain may not be possible in each case, the treatment approach focuses on the patient’s ability to manage his or her own pain, increase functionality, reduce dependence upon medications and the medical system, and regain control of his or her life.

Progress and patient treatment plans are reviewed in regularly held treatment team conferences to monitor outcomes and to help promote quality of care.
