Treatment Options for Breast Cancer

Surgery is the most common treatment, and many women find it to be successful.

Once breast cancer is detected and diagnosed, you have a choice of many different treatment options to pursue. Some of the most common options include:

Surgery: This is the most common treatment for breast cancer and involves an operation in which some of or the entire breast is removed.
Radiation Therapy: High-energy radiation is used to kill cancer cells.
Chemotherapy: Drugs are used to kill or stop cancer cell growth.
Hormone Therapy: Hormones are removed or their action is blocked in order to stop the growth of cancer cells.

It is important that you discuss your treatment options with your physician; these open discussions may help you determine which treatment option is right for you and your unique situation.

North Fulton Regional Hospital will offer Mammosite breast conservation therapy, a surgical treatment option with only 5 days of targeted radiation therapy (as opposed to several weeks).  Learn more about this procedure here.
