Congratulations! Now that you’re pregnant, you may be wondering what to do next and when! The following information will help guide you in checking off some of the items on your “to do” list.
First Trimester (Week 1-13)
- Schedule an appointment for your first office visit. If you do not have a physician, call 770-751-2600 for a referral to a healthcare professional.
- Read the Healthy Beginnings Guidebook that you received at your first office visit to answer many of the questions you may have about pregnancy and planning for your baby’s birth. If you did not receive a copy of our guidebook, please call our perinatal education department at 770-751-2687
- Call 770-751-2660 for information about our hospital or services.
- Check with your insurance provider for coverage and co-pay amounts for the following professionals and services:
- Healthcare professional
- Hospital
- Circumcision
- Education classes
- Outpatient breast pump rental
- Neonatologist
- Anesthesiologist
- Pediatrician
- Length of stay (vaginal and cesarean delivery)

- Maintain a healthy lifestyle including good nutrition and regular exercise. Learn more about prenatal yoga and prenatal exercise classes here, or call 770-751-2660.
- Complete a pregnancy enrollment card at your first prenatal office visit to receive important reminders and education information. If you did not receive an enrollment card, call 770-751-2687.
Second Trimester (Weeks 14-28)
- Pre-register for delivery. You may obtain a maternity pre-registration packet at your healthcare professional’s office or at the outpatient admissions department at North Fulton Regional Hospital. For further information regarding maternity pre-registration, please call 770-751-2843.
- Register for childbirth preparation classes to secure the space that works for your schedule and your baby’s due date. Even if you are planning for a medicated delivery, it will be important for you to know what to expect and to be prepared if things do not go exactly as you have planned. Refer to the Labor and Delivery section of our website for prenatal class information.
- Call 770-751-2660 to schedule a tour of the maternity area at North Fulton Regional Hospital. Children are welcome to accompany their parents on the tour.
- Begin a pregnancy exercise program to maintain good health. Learn more about our prenatal yoga and exercise classes here, or call 770-751-2660.
- If this is your first baby, schedule Baby Care Basics and Breastfeeding classes. If you have other young children, they may enjoy learning about their new role in our sibling class. Online registration is available on the Find an Event section of our website, or by calling 770-751-2660.
- Begin to research birth options and begin to plan for the birth experience you envision. Bring these notes to your prenatal visits to discuss your preferences with your healthcare professional.
Third Trimester (Weeks 29-40)
- Items to complete during weeks 29-36
- Complete your birth plan for what you wish to happen (but not necessarily what will happen!) during labor. Discuss your comlpleted plan with your healthcare provider.
- Complete your education classes and discuss any questions you may have with your healthcare provider.
- Purchase a car safety seat for your baby and install it in your vehicle. If you aren’t sure that the safety seat is properly installed, you may want to consult with a certified car seat safety technician. - Interview and choose a pediatrician.
- Items to complete during weeks 36-40
- Pack your labor and hospital bags.
- Review the visitor guidelines for labor and delivery and other hospital information.
- Arrange for childcare if you have other children.
- Complete the birth certificate sample worksheet and pack it in your labor bag. This should be given to you along with your prenatal notebook.
