When dizziness disrupts your day…
More than 40 percent of Americans will experience dizziness serious enough to see a doctor. Balance problems, another vestibular issue, are also among the most common reasons older adults seek medical help. North Fulton Regional Hospital’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Services offer a comprehensive Vestibular Rehabilitation Program to address vertigo, dizziness, and other balance disorders.
Our vestibular rehabilitation therapists treat patients with acute or chronic vestibular and/or balance dysfunction associated with, but not limited to:
- Acoustic Neuroma
- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
- Cervicogenic Dizziness
- Head Trauma
- Labyrinthititis
- Meniere’s Syndrome
- Perilymphatic Fistula
- Vestibular Neuritis
People suffering from these conditions often complain primarily of dizziness and disequilibrium as well as nausea/vomiting, hearing loss and/or tinnitus, blurred vision, headaches, general weakness and muscle tension. You may also have experienced falls.
Program Content
In addition to an extensive interview and comprehensive neuromuscular exam, patients will have an oculomotor exam, postural exam and a balance/postural control evaluation using standardized measures.
The program seeks to:
- Decrease the patient’s feelings of vertigo/dizziness;
- Increase movement tolerance;
- Improve balance and postural control, gaze stability and overall endurance.
Entry into the Vestibular Rehabilitation Programs requires a referral from a physician, so talk to your doctor if you think you might be a candidate.
