North Fulton Regional Hospital offers physical, occupational and speech therapy in Outpatient Rehabilitation Services five days a week. The licensed clinical therapists see patients with a variety of conditions, including:
- Orthopedic: major and minor fractures, spinal fusions, total hip or knee replacement surgery, repairs of ligaments, tendons or nerves, tears of the muscle, cartilage or rotator cuff, and sprains or strains of the muscle.
- Neurologic: strokes, neurologic disorders or illnesses (Parkinson’s Guillan Barre, MS), acquire or traumatic brain injury, and brain tumors.
- Post-Surgery: patients who have become weak or deconditioned, who have been immobile for a period of time, or who have limited endurance.
- Wound Care (includes burns and scarring)
- Speech Language Pathology or Swallowing Difficulties: following a stroke, accident, surgery or cancer treatment, individuals may have difficulty with speech or swallowing
- Multi-Trauma Injuries
- Balance Disorders
With any of these conditions, your physician may prescribe therapy to measure your functional ability, to improve your strength, mobility, endurance, coordination or balance, or to decrease pain, swelling and inflammation.
Your physician will decide when it is appropriate for you to begin therapy and how often you should participate. Patients usually participate in therapy 2-5 times a week, depending on their specific diagnosis.

Insurance Coverage
Many insurance plans cover all or part of the cost of a rehabilitation program. Coverage is determined by your individual policy. Medicare and many managed care plans have benefits that cover the costs for patients. Because insurance plans and benefits can vary, we recommend that you discuss the costs with your company health benefits coordinator or a staff member of the North Fulton Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Program.
Outpatient Rehabilitation Staff
Our staff includes licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists, a vocational counselor, social work counselor, case manager, dietitian, and a board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician.
Taking the Next Step
Entry into the Outpatient Rehabilitation Program requires a referral by your physician. A referral can be made by calling the Outpatient Rehabilitation office at 770.751.2650, faxing a prescription/order to 770.751.2854 or by bringing a written prescription to our office. Once the referral has been received, we will work with your insurance provider to pre-certify your therapy sessions.
