Volunteer Positions

     Volunteer opportunities are available in a variety of clinical and non-clinical areas within the hospital.  See the following position descriptions to find one of interest to you.  

Clerical Volunteer

Special Requirements: Ability to verbally communicate with staff, families, and volunteers. Requires ability to type and be computer literate.  

Critical Care Waiting Room Volunteer

Job Summary: The volunteer serves as a liaison between families and nursing staff in ICU/CCU and offers comfort and support to families.

Special Requirements: The volunteer must be able to verbally communicate with families and able to answer any questions the family may have (excluding medical information). Volunteer should have physical ability to mobilize between units and waiting areas and the ability to emotionally tolerate stressful situations. This person must observe strict confidentiality.  

Emergency Department Volunteer

Job Summary: The Emergency Department Volunteer serves as a liaison between patients, their waiting families and the registration personnel in the Emergency Department. They offer comfort and support to the patient and family. They will also act as a patient advocate for the patients by checking in each room, logging the visits and the requests of the patient’s family members.

Special Requirements: This volunteer must have physical ability to move patients.  He/she should be able to verbally communicate with patients, families, nursing and physician staff. ER Volunteers are requested to support the emergency staff in the areas of patient and family comfort.  

Endoscopy Volunteer

Job Summary: The volunteer offers comfort and support to the patient and family when required. Assists with administrative tasks as needed.

Special Requirements:  Physical ability to transport patients and specimens. Has ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients, families, nursing and physician staff.  

Gift Shop Volunteer

Job Summary: The Gift Shop Volunteer arrives on time to open store, counts money, calls for inventory, does basic cleaning, and fills out some paperwork.  

Materials Management Volunteer

Special Requirements: This volunteer is able to communicate with staff, patients and families. (S)he is prompt, dependable, conscientious, diligent in their duties and courteous.  

Medical Staff Services Volunteer

Special Requirements: This person is able to communicate with staff, patients, and families. (S)he is prompt, dependable, conscientious, diligent in their duties and courteous.  

Medical/Surgical Floor Volunteer

Job Summary: The Medical/Surgical Volunteer serves as a liaison between patients, their families and hospital staff. They offer comfort and support to the patient and family.

Special Requirements: This person must have physical ability to move patients. (S)he must verbally communicate with patients, families, nursing and physician staff. They are to support the staff in areas of patient and family comfort. Physical Therapy Volunteer

Special Requirements: The physical therapy volunteers have the ability to mobilize around department and handle equipment. They have the ability to communicate verbally with patients, family and staff.  

Reception Desk Volunteer

Job Summary: The volunteer serves the hospital and the community by providing patient information, assisting visitors with their needs and by providing them with information and directions to the various departments and/or areas of the hospital. The reception volunteer also accepts floral deliveries and keeps the patient census up-to-date regarding hospital discharges and admissions.

Special Requirements: This person must have ability to communicate courteously and effectively with patients, families, visitors and staff. (S)he is responsible and caring and  can maintain confidentiality.  

Rehabilitation Services Volunteer

Job Summary: To assist rehab patients and staff in daily operation of department. To support rehab staff in the areas of patient and family comfort. Administrative work as required.

Special Requirements: The ability to interact positively with visitors, patients and staff, greet patients and guests in an attentive and gracious manner, have excellent communication skills, have direct knowledge of hospital floor plan including rehab area. Physical ability to be mobile and transport patients and specimens. Responsible and caring individual.  

Surgery Waiting Room Volunteer

Special Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally with staff and family members. Prompt, dependable, conscientious, diligent in their duties and courteous.  

Surgical Services Volunteer

Job Summary: Surgical Services (Outpatient) Volunteers accept all assignments from the staffs of Pre-Ops, Outpatient Surgery, Admissions, Women’s Health and Endoscopy Lab cheerfully and with a smile. Volunteers assist the departments in a variety of tasks, normally as follows, but others as may be requested.  

Transportation Department Volunteer

Job Summary: The Transportation Volunteer serves various departments of the hospital. They transport patients from their room to various treatment areas and back, admit themk to their rooms, and discharge them from the hospital. They deliver supplies and medications from the pharmacy to the nurses’ stations, deliver occasional food trays to the patients or their families, deliver materials and supplies from central supply to the nurses’ stations, take specimen from the stations to the laboratory, take medical records to various areas, and other related work as needed.  

Trauma Support Volunteer Team

Special Requirements: TSTV candidates must have NFRH volunteer experience prior to TSTV training. The volunteer must be able to verbally communicate with families. The Volunteer is a liaison between the families and the staff.  

Women’ Health Volunteer

Job Summary: This person is our women’s health ambassador to patients, staff and guest they contact. Volunteer needs to be friendly, outgoing and enjoy people.

Special Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and interact positively with staff, patients and visitors. Have direct knowledge of hospital floor plan. Physical ability to push mother of infant in wheelchair. Ability to understand and use computerized infant alarm system. Ability to allow acceptable personnel access to Women’s Health unit. Understands and follows all HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
