Following National Volunteer Week this year, North Fulton Regional Hospital held its annual awards banquet for its dedicated group of volunteers. On Saturday evening, May 10, the volunteers and representatives from the hospital gathered at the Marriott to recognize volunteers for their hours and years of service.

Pat Oxford earns recognition for her 28,500 hours of service.

Longtime Volunteer Organization President Meryl Schlossman presided over the evening and offered a welcome to all in attendance. Other officers included Vice President of Activities Becky Stiles, Vice President of Membership Sue Bearman, Secretary Bob Burgess and Treasurer Lucy Yankee.

“This has been such a wonderful year for us,” Schlossman said. “Spirits around the hospital are high, we’ve got brand new uniforms and we are able to gather together to recognize all of our service milestones.”

And milestones certainly abounded. Surpassing 28,500 hours of volunteer service at North Fulton Regional Hospital is Pat Oxford, a member of the Emergency Department team. Others achieving service hour milestones above 10,000 include:

  • Phil Etchinson: 10,000+ hours
  • Valerie Merijanian: 11,500+ hours
  • Luisa Lausten: 12,000 hours
  • Don Moll: 18,000+ hours

Volunteers were also commended and recognized for their years of faithful service to the hospital. Surpassing the 15 year mark this year are:

  • John Barbe
  • Bertha Cox
  • Marquerite Davis
  • Phil Etchinson
  • Nita Page
  • Janet Stolberg

Volunteers enjoy honoring one another and spending time together over an elegant dinner at the banquet.

Beyond the services volunteers provide within the hospital is their work that affects the community. Each year the volunteers award approximately $25,000 in college scholarships. Anyone in the community pursuing a career in the medical field is eligible for one of these awards, and funds can be put toward tuition, books, lab fees or uniforms.
20 deserving students received scholarships from the North Fulton Regional Hospital Volunteers for the 2008-2009 school term. The recipients for the awards are:

  • Penal Presmy
