PATIENTS ‘5-STAR-SATISFIED’ WITH WOMEN’S CENTER

August 11, 2008

Small department at North Fulton Regional Hospital makes big impression

Who says bigger is better? This is certainly not the case in the Women’s Center at North Fulton Regional Hospital. With consistent 5-Star patient satisfaction ratings since the start of 2008, this department has shown that personalized care is alive and well.

“On a scale of 1-5, I would score my experience at NFRH to be a 10,” says one patient. “Thank you so much to all the caring nurses in the Women’s Center! It was the best hospital stay I have ever had…thank you, thank you!” says another. These comments and countless others just like them provide motivation to the staff in the Women’s Center to continue doing what they do best: care.
A 5-Star rating is the highest rating that can be given to any Tenet hospital in regard to patient satisfaction. These scores are generated monthly through phone calls to randomly selected North Fulton Regional Hospital patients by an external field research corporation. Interviews can be conducted in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese with the focus on many programs in addition to the Women’s Center.

The delivery room provides an atmosphere of comfort.

“What makes our maternity area different from so many others is the size.” Angie Busch, Director of Women’s Health Services, says. “We have six labor and delivery suites, so we are able to give our complete attention to each and every expectant mom without having to sacrifice care and attention to anyone.”

The personal attention mothers receive in the Women’s Center has not wavered since the first delivery back in November 1983. Now a quarter of a century later, expectant mothers still hold the primary role in deciding how they wish to deliver their babies. This flexibility involves a family-center environment with choices ranging from labor balls, tubs for relaxation during labor, and a birthing pool for water birth. The entire maternal area is also equipped with an updated, advanced infant security system, and all of the units are just steps away from one another.

Women have the option to deliver via waterbirth at North Fulton Regional Hospital.

“Making sure each family member feels they are part of the birth experience helps to make it even more personal, joyful and memorable,” Busch adds. “We love what we do and look forward to making each and every hospital experience as successful as it can possibly be each and every day.”

Nurses and staff enjoy the small, very personal atmosphere of the department as it allows them to focus completely on their patients. This aspect of the Women’s Center is also preferred by many of the expectant (and eventually new) moms. Says one returning mother: “Everyone was very helpful, kind and personable. The wonderful staff and smaller hospital are why we chose twice to come here over other alternatives.”

Some services available to expectant mothers and their families at North Fulton Regional Hospital include educational classes such as Baby Care Basics, Breastfeeding Class, Motherlore, Prenatal Exercise and Yoga Classes, Prepared Childbirth and a Sibling Class. The hospital also offers various breastfeeding services and maternity tours.

North Fulton Regional Hospital (NFRH), part of Tenet Georgia, is a 202-bed, acute-care
