Employees band together to support Breast Cancer Awareness
Administration and staff made it official at the beginning of the month: North Fulton Regional Hospital is picturing itself healthy!
To kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CEO Joe Austin spoke to a gathering of hospital employees at the Picture Yourself Healthy hospital kick-off, an event to motivate the group and encourage involvement in breast cancer awareness activities.
“This is about more than just remembering to get a mammogram,” Austin explained. “It’s about women keeping themselves in the picture and making their health just as much of a priority as are their families and careers.”

| Picture Yourself Healthy was created by North Fulton Regional Hospital and its sister hospitals as part of a national campaign to promote early detection and testing that could save the lives of the approximately 180,000 women who are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
Pat Oxford, a volunteer of more than twenty years with the hospital, knows all about the challenges that can accompany a diagnosis of breast cancer. A four-year breast cancer survivor herself, Oxford shared her moving testimony with the crowd at the Picture Yourself Healthy kick-off.
“I just want everyone to know that this is not a death sentence,” Oxford said. “I am living proof that this technology—the mammograms and the MRIs—can work. It saved my life.” Oxford volunteers in the Emergency Department of the hospital and makes a point to proudly wear her pink ribbon pin. She is one of several breast cancer survivors affiliated with the hospital that were recognized at the kick-off.
North Fulton Regional Hospital offers year-round women’s services spanning the continuum of care for breast cancer, such as mammography, ultrasound, biopsy, MRI and breast surgery.
