Hospital's first construction project since 1993
in response to growing community needs.

Roswell, GA -- North Fulton Regional Hospital broke ground today on a $30 million project to expand and renovate the surgical department and to construct a two-story patient tower. Hospital officials, employees, community members, and local government representatives were on hand to witness the event.

"As north metro Atlanta has continued to grow, so have the community's needs for a local hospital," said John Holland, CEO of North Fulton Regional Hospital. "In the 20 years since we opened our doors, we have seen an exponential increase in volume, including an almost 34 percent increase since 2001. This expansion project, our first since 1993, will enable us to better serve our growing population base."

The surgical department expansion includes the addition of three designated inpatient operating rooms equipped with advanced surgical equipment, two new endoscopy rooms and a 42-bay anesthesia care unit (ACU), which will replace and expand the hospital's current 18-bay ACU. Construction on the first surgical suite addition will begin on August 23, 2004 and will be completed in January 2005. When fully completed in 2007, the hospital will have a total of nine operating suites.

The two-story patient tower expansion, to be built over the expanded surgical department, will include 13 medical/surgical beds and 11 observation beds. The 13 medical/surgical beds will be relocated from existing units in the hospital in order to create additional private patient rooms. The observation beds will be used to accommodate additional patients during the ay and also will be utilized by the emergency department for patients who require observation for less than 24 hours, but do not need to be admitted. Construction of the patient tower will begin in March 2005 and anticipated completion is scheduled for January 2007.
